Prayers of Confession and Prayers of the People:

     –Lift up to God prayers for those who have made some dumb mistakes.

     -Lift up to God prayers for those who are estranged from parents and other family.   

     -Lift up to God prayers for those who feel resentment toward others.

     -Lift up to God prayers for those who are thankful that they have been welcomed home.

     -Lift all these prayers up to God.

Assurance of Pardon:

      Here the good news.  Jesus tells the story of the prodigal son, the resentful brother, and the welcoming father.  This story reminds us that at times we are the one who makes really dumb mistakes.  At other times we are the one who feels sorrow when someone we love has rejected us.  And at other times we are the one who feels resentful.  But whatever stage we are in we can be reminded of the one who forgives and who welcomes home.   AMEN.
