Mary and Elizabeth and Reaching Out

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been reading scriptures connected to Elizabeth, Zechariah, and their son John the Baptist.  Today we will read the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, reaching out to Elizabeth during a chaotic time for both.

Opening Music of Praise:  “Angels We Have Heard on High”

Prayers of Confession and Prayers of the People:

-Lift up to God prayers for those who feel disconnected from a faith community.
-Lift up to God prayers for those who feel very connected to a faith community.
-Lift up to God prayers for those who will be traveling.
-Lift up to God prayers for those who have no one to go see.
-Lift all these prayers up to God.

Assurance of Pardon:

Hear the good news.  God chose a young virgin named Mary to bring the Christ child into the world.  Mary proclaimed that she was blessed among all women.  God continues to call the most unlikely characters to share the good news of the greatest story.  We do not use these blessings to horde but to connect with others to join in the journey.  Through the birth and resurrection of Christ we are blessed and forgiven.  AMEN.

Music of Response:   “Joy to the World”

Scripture:  Micah 5:2-5a; Luke 1:39-55   (www.biblegateway.com)

Message:  Sermon is attached or is posted on site on Facebook

Closing Music:  “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice”
