A Liturgy for October

Oh God, thank you for the loveliness of this fall season when your beauty and color are on display all around us. My we embrace fresh hope during these days of change.

Hear our prayer oh, Lord.

We thank you for the gift of Common Ground and the opportunities it offers to encounter you in ever-changing ways. We pray that many in our community will experience this unique place and hear your voice in the beauty of your world.

Hear our prayer oh, Lord.

In these days of continued social distancing, may we make memories with family and friends on the trails of Common Ground. Help us to find creative ways to build relationships and encourage each other in these challenging times.

Hear our prayer oh, Lord.

Thank you for the privilege of being the caretakers of this sacred space. Bless those who labor to maintain it and continue to raise up willing volunteers to do the work needed to care for Common Ground.

Hear our prayer oh Lord.

As we walk the trails and see the wall that separates the white cemetery and the graveyard for the formerly enslaved, fill us with a continuing passion to build bridges and tear down walls of division and systemic racism.

Hear our prayer oh Lord.

As we learn about the plants and wildlife on these grounds and their seasonal changes, help us to strive continually to be good caretakers of the creation you called good. May we protect this planet for ourselves and those who com after.

Hear our prayer of Lord.

In this autumn season, make us aware of our own legacies. As we pass the memorials of those who have gone before, may we commit to living lives that will be remembered as being filled with compassion, grace, courage, and faith.

Hear our prayer oh, Lord.

To help us feel a sense of community while we are physically separated, the congregation of AC will have monthly prayer themes, beginning in September. Each person or family will receive the same prayer and suggestions for ways to serve that are related to the month’s prayer theme.

During the act of prayer we open our hearts to the spirit of the Lord and we are united as one.

If you have suggestions for prayer themes, please email Patrice Gaine at [email protected] or call her 803-487-0617.
