Down by the Creek – September 2018

From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Friends,

As I write this the summer months are disappearing, and we are heading into fall. We will begin to enjoy some cooler temperatures and different opportunities.

At Allison Creek we will be kicking off our new connect 4×4 on September 9th. 4×4 is a new model of faith formation that builds off our traditions and faith. The model will help us to connect our story, the Biblical story, the community story, and how to share the story. We recognize that we live during a time when we need to offer multiple ways for people to connect to God’s story. We will be doing this through Sunday morning classes, worship, small groups, and future use of technology. We hope that people will take the resources that we provide and adapt them in a way that works for them.

One of the ways we are seeking to connect with families in our area is by making some changes to worship nursery. We are now calling it “Children’s Church” and providing new learning opportunities. Session has also set aside money to hire a second staff person to work alongside Tracey. As you continue to support the ministry of Allison Creek with your financial contributions we are able to increase what we offer and provide.

I want to thank all of the many volunteers who make this such a special place. Whether you are working on the building or grounds, teaching, sharing music, sharing technology skills, or a myriad of other ways I want to say “Thanks.” May God continue to bless your efforts.

Peace,
Sam

Devotional

Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”

I was reminded of this verse while I was preparing one of my recent sermons. It’s a popular phrase when people refer to Montreat or their favorite place in the mountains.

This text reminds us that as we face challenges in life we are not alone. We have a God who reminds us that God is our helper and guide.

What are some situations in your life right now where you need to be reminded that God is your helper and guide?

Are you trusting in God to be your helper and guide?
